Artwork and Works in Progress of Shinerai from DeviantART.
An overdue piece for the ShinXChange over at dA for Ardengrail of her character with the same name. This is done with Copic markers, white acrylic, and ballpoint pen. It’s not the best thing I’ve ever done but it’s certainly the best marker work I’ve created, aha. It was a real challenge and learning experience.

What brushes you use for drawing? :3

Holy crap! I’m sorry, everyone, I’m too dumb to use tumblr and I didn’t realize I had messages.

To be completely honest about this one, I’m really unsatisfied with the brushes I use to draw. I use Photoshop default brushes “Hard Round” and “Airbrush Pen Opacity Flow”. I noticed the names of these brushes tend to vary depending on what version of Photoshop you have, but they’re pretty much right at the top of the list and I tend to paint all of my art with these two. I also have a hair brush but lately I have been hand drawing all of my hair.

I hope to mess around with tons of custom brushes in the future but, truth be told, I’m pretty nervous.

Still working on this! I finally finished the detailing (sans the background ear and wing) and I’m onto coloring. I definitely have to amend the specific shades of orange, but I’m pleased with how this is coming out.

To take a break from some of my other drawings *coughshineraipaintingcough*, I decided to do some random arts. Someone in my stream linked to a random dragon description generator, which was pretty cool. I asked a friend to pick an interesting description and paste it to me so I could draw a design based on it. I took lots of artistic liberties with it, of course, but incorporated all of the design aspects other than the color, which was supposed to be white (I tried, haha).
Anyway, I don’t need this design, so I will be auctioning it off on deviantART as soon as dA fixes the bug where deviations just don’t show up in people’s inboxes.

Recently, the hard drive in my PC died and even though I had backed up my files relatively recently, there was a work in process PSD that was lost. I was going to have to paint over a small web-saved JPEG of the image, but ElectricFangs recommended that I try putting my hard drive in the freezer. By following Fang’s advise, I was able to recover my data and continue working on the picture! I draw this picture of Fang’s character in thanks for helping me continue working on my drawing. ♥

I’m so close to being done with the shading on this, I can taste it. Om nom nom it’s delicious. Someone on dA recommended I put my hard drive in the freezer and holy crap it worked. I’m working from the original PSD! :D

So my hard drive failed on Saturday which resulted in my weekend being spent fresh installing Windows and trying to get all of my programs loaded up onto a new drive. Unfortunately, the data on the old drive is unrecoverable (though, not for the lack of trying), so the file for the WIP in my recent posts is gone and I will soon be painting over the JPEG I last posted (fun).

While waiting for Windows to install and everything to be all happy, I decided to test the durability of this nice stationery I bought while at Target the other day. It’s some simple colored pieces of cardstock that come with little colored envelopes; the paper was surprisingly resilient while being colored and painted on. It acts really weird with Copic markers at first, causing the first layer to experience streaking (which Copics are known for avoiding) but other than that, it accepts the markers and acrylic paint without turning dark, getting soft, or going wavy.

Thus, have a drawing of my boyfriend’s character name Ryoseth. I don’t know what the heck I was thinking when I drew this dragon’s neck (I was pretty upset all night so…) but I consider this to be my most successful drawing using Copic markers because I have not been particularly good at shading with them in the past.
